341 in morning - nervous!!!!

    341 in morning - nervous!!!!

    My 341 is at 11:30 in the morning. My atty left a message on my machine today while at work to not forget that the hearing is tomorrow, to be there at 11am, to bring my drivers license and SSN card and gave me his cell phone number in case I have a problem. What I don't know is, what to wear? I don't want to 'overdress' but in the same token don't want to 'under dress' either. I want to be respectable. I remember someone saying not to wear any jewelry even if 'fake'. That's all I know.

    Guys, I am soooo nervous, I think I could throw up!! It's like it's all coming down to this one moment in my life. It's either make or break. I keep trying to deep breath and tell myself that it's all going to be okay, but I'm not listening to myself so much right now, cuz it's not working. So any suggestions on the outfit and help ease one worry. Thanks for listening!!

    Relax, it should go real fine. I would dress business casual at least. I would also avoid jewlery. During my 341 the Trustee called attention to my $200 watch but there was really no problem over it.

      We went to court about a month ago with our neighbors trying to get a restraining order against us. (which they failed), but the ladies grandson (age 20) walked in with baggy shorts on, and the judge REALLY chastised him. It was hilarious! There she was trying to get a RO on us, and the judge gets mad at her punky grandson.

      Anyway.. I had NO clue there was a dress code, but there IS. No shorts, no bare midriffs, no halter tops, no baggy shorts.. basically you just want to look/act respectable. And don't forget, the correct answers are YES and NO, not um-hum. ;) (the judge got mad at the grandson for that too)

        Should I wear a tie? My meeting is tomorrow in the afternoon, so I have to work in the morning. I do business casual at work, but no ties since they can get caught. Should I go home first to put one on?

        Also, what should I bring? My Attorney has been notably silent and havn't been able to reach her. I don't know what to bring with me or what questions to be prepared to answer. I don't even know where to go!

          Sounds like you are really, really nervous. Calm down. As far as what to wear no offence, but if you are old enough to file for bk you should know how to dress in a court. As far as what to bring it's posted on many other threads by HHM. Your lawyer should have told you all this weeks ago. As far as where to go the address should be on the letter you received. After you are finished reading this go to map quest, map it out and get there at least 1 hour early so you will be relaxed for the meeting. Look on some of HHM's replies to see what you will need to bring.

            I think as far as a tie goes, if you have one, great, if not, it's not going to mean you won't get discharged. I think you just want to dress conservatively. No street clothes, no baggy pants that are falling off your rump etc. No t-shirts with logos etc.

            Funny story here. My husbands secretary at his office, her daughter had to go to court for her DUI (multiple offenses) and had on a Jack Daniels T-shirt. *DOH*

            Good luck, and leave REALLY early. I read that some court houses can have limited parking, you do NOT want to be late. Better early and waiting on them! It shows responsibility!

              Little bit of an attitude there, no?

              Anyway, most people DON'T know how to dress for something like this. Quite frankly I have never been to a court case in my life, and I don't know how formal or informal the place is. At this point I need every advantage I can get. And as far as what to bring, if you read many of these posts there are a lot of people who are claiming they get asked for all kinds of documents, while others do not. It seems to depend upon the case. Yes, my lawyer should fill me in on this, but as it turns out it seems to be more about making a quick buck than being helpful, so I am on my own right now unless I can reach her in the morning.

              And as far as the location goes, the address they give is not a courthouse, but an office building. Something does not seem right there, but again, without being able to talk with the lawyer, I am out on my own.

                If you are refering to me with an attitude, maybe I had one. I meant no disrespect, but I feel that whether we have been to court or not it's just a common sense descision to look neat and clean. We are all getting a great gift from the courts in bk and we should respect them for this. Most of us have seen "My Cousin Vinny" (LOL ) and that should explain everything. I just hate to see people so close to the light at the end of the tunnel lose it over small things. No you won't lose or win your discharge over what you where, but just look professional and be honest and you can rebuild your life in no time at all.

                  AH.. I have to say, I had no idea what was "acceptable attire" in court. I had to go to court due to restraining orders and my crappy neighbors.. and I bought my girls some new summer outfits (on sale) and since it was the 'newest/nicest' thing they owned, I had them wear them. WELL.. when the judge rebuked my neighbors grandson right there in court, telling him that "your attire is NOT appropriate in a court of law, and you will NOT disrespect me and the courts by wearing those clothes again".. WHEW.. I just made my kids sit down until we won and walked out!! :s

                  We just had to go to court again over the neighbors dogs, and there is this small little poster/flier on the court wall that talks about what's appropriate and not. Basically if a high school kid would wear it, then we shouldn't! HA-HA.. that's about the only way I can describe what all was on the list. We just want to dress respectfully/conservatively. But I don't think they can kick you out of court for not having a tie on either. Just dress like if you were going to a church function. Not in a suit and tie (you might look too well off??) but not in shorts and a tank either. Some nice jeans or slacks, with a nice shirt (not T-shirt) would probably work just fine.
