    Serious Question

It seems like in every other county in Indiana there is probono help except where I live.

My Dad just filed for bk he was told when he went into get the counseling that there is a way to get a free bk. Ok, so what is the qualifications?

I am married with a household size of three, we make very little (pm and Ill tell you how little), I am setting on over 100.000 in debt. I want to file for bk but to file you have to have money right? Is there something that I can do to see if I qualify for a free bk. I really could use some help, I am running out of resources.

    Thank you

Do lawyers in the neighboring counties also serve your county, if so just hire one of them .

If that's not a reality then as TEW says stop paying on any unsecured debt and use that money to pay for a lawyer.

Even if you file with a lawyer there is a form to file with the court that can waive the court fees part of the filing cost if you qualify but I'm not sure of qualifications.

I have seen many people referred to free legal services when the person making the referral knows full well that they will not handle the case. It's really to get someone out of the office with a "pat on the back."

Volunteer and free legal has been a stepchild for years. They have very small budgets, and spend a lot of it helping women in abusive situations on domestic actions, child support, and so on.

I'm not saying that it's impossible to get help with a BK, but not easy. Worth a call to an agency even in a different county to see if they can get you a referral. Don't let lack of money keep you from talking to a private atty. Perhaps something could be worked out, it often is.

You can file "pro se" - it's not that easy but then again it's free except for the filing fees.

Actually if you make below the poverty line then you can request to have the filing fee waived or at a minumum paid in installments.
