    Cell phone goes kaput.

I have been with TMobile for 8 years, I got a new cell phone last year after the first one died and now this one is dying (no one can hear me on the other end). Turns out the warranty expired two weeks ago (of course).

I don't have a land line, it doesn't make sense for me because of the business I am in. My papers have been filed, and I know I can't make a luxury purchase ...

What are my options? If I get a new phone will it red flag? Will I even be able to - or would it be considered an extension of credit? Is there a chance that TMobile will ask me to put down a new deposit because of my BK? Right now I'm no longer under contract and to not pay a ton for the phone if I don't renew a new one. What about switching to one of the no-contract phones, can I keep my number?

Anyone know? Man, I wish I had a martini about now! LOL

Just give t-mobile a call and see what offers they have.

I switched phones after my 341 but before my discharge and did not have a problem. There was no major outlay of cash, just about $30 for my wife's new phone, mine was free.

Actually, I also got phones for my Mom and mother-in-law so we can all be IN. Next I'll be downgrading my plan since I won't be using as many plan minutes. So, my changing cell phones actually works out cheaper.

Verizon did a credit check on me, but the phones arrived a few days later.

Should I wait until after my 341?

i called TMobile this morning and they said the best they could do is set me up with a one year contract to get the phone for the suggested price. I guess if you don't renew your contract the phone is a couple grand ... of course, I didn't mention my impending bankruptcy ...

I think cell phone compaines are in the business of selling service for the most part, not phones. That is why they will give them away as long as you make a committment.

I did, since I figure I'll be need a cell phone for that time anyway.

        good luck!

Hell i have a tmobile phone that im not using wish i could send it to ya. Not a fancy phone but works. When is your contract up with tmobile? I used to work in the cellphone industry so i know the ends and outs of it. But anyways if all else fells as far as the phone is concerned, you can go to ebay.

            try a used cell phone

My son's cell phone and SIM card went kaploey a few weeks ago. Rather than buy him a new one, we went to the different cellphone kiosoks at the mall in search of a used phone,m you have to ask them if they have any used phones that are compatible with your provider. For $75 we got a used phone with accesories and a new SIM card, probably could have negotiated the price a bit more. Everything works, no effect on our cell phone contract. You can also find used phones on ebay.

I like the idea of buying a used phone - they crap out so quick anyhow! Do you still have to call to activate it or will I just be able to pop in my sim card and go?

If the phone is from the same provider all you should have to do is pop in your sim card and you should be good to go.
