Paid the filing fee $209.00 and then $26.00 to amend the list of creditor's but I filed Pro Se. The paperwork was actually quite easy and I downloaded everything off the court's website. I actually paid the $209 in installments also.
We paid $850 which included the filing fee. Our attorney had to go the "extra mile" because we had to meet with the U.S. Trustee but given I did all the research and talking when we met with her I think what we paid him was fair. He could make a case(no pun intended) that we should pay him an additional fee given he had to attend the 2004 Exam but that was almost a month ago; and we have since been discharged to I guess that trip to her office was on the house! My advice would be if you have a uncomplicated case - file pro se. If we had not had a debatable expense I would have done just that but I didnt want to leave anything to chance.
I am in NYC (in Manhattan). I paid the attorney $850 and that includes the filing fee. The attornry required $100 payment in teh beginning. and teh rest can be paid off in installments ...but I just saved teh money and after paying the $100 - I then paid the $750 at one time. Mines were an no asset case and I thought alt about filing pre se...but then it the long run, for me, I thought it would be les stressful if I used teh attorney and I am glad taht I did.
I'm going to do that myself. What part of the process are you at now?

Kinda stupid i guess but i could not afford the 1700 so i did it myself.
Most of my information is from personal experience or HOURS and HOURS of online research. When you're searching online, keep in mind there is no guarantee that the info is completely up to date, and your situation is unique from anyone else's. Do your homework, and consult with an attorney so you can make an informed decision.
okay not stupid to file yourself in my opinion if you feel you have a no asset case, it just depends on how good you are at paperwork and at researching. It was quite easy for me but I went to college and my major was law so I guess it comes with the territory. My paperwork went through fine and my 341 is next week and have talked to the trustee who says its a no asset case and to bring my DL and SSC and thats it in and out in 3 min. flat he said.
I know it was more then others, but to be honest I think it was 100% worth the cost. I got quotes from three different TX lawyers (800, 1900, & 2400). I just felt good with the lawyer I picked.
Plus, since I sailed through with no objections or problems I don;t regret the high price.
I just sent the first check for $259...And there's an additional $650 to pay, makes for a total of $909 for everything and the main reason I do this, is that I do have a TERRIBLE attitude with keeping paperwork straight and such..But after this BK, will for sure have a filing system and a file holder for everything!
PLus, looking at secured cards, but knowing it's going to be past December before I want one..If I even do!
