    just filed

I have posted before and a received some great comments and this is an update. I went to a BK lawyer, signed the papers and my case was filed a few days ago. The lawyer was excellent, he asked me a few questions about income, assets, and also prepared a budget for me and that was it.
In about ten days I will recieve the information about my case and date/time of my 341 meeting.

I feel better that I took this step but still feel like a failure. Thank you in advance for your posts. God is giving me a second chance and I thank him for that.

P.S. I have been reading on these post about after discharge they are getting credit card offers in the mail. How do I stop them before they get to my door step?? Plus, I think there should be laws for CC companies on how much credit they extend to consumers, one of my creditors told me they give us consumers more than twice they can handle. How could a person change that?

You should be able to opt out of receiving pre-qual offers, I think you contact each credit bureau regarding it.

Other than that, some responsibility falls onto us to not bite off more than we can chew...
Most of my information is from personal experience or HOURS and HOURS of online research. When you're searching online, keep in mind there is no guarantee that the info is completely up to date, and your situation is unique from anyone else's. Do your homework, and consult with an attorney so you can make an informed decision.

Life without a cc is GOOD - but yet everyone needs emergency credit that they can use if necessary.
Have one cc for emergency use only.....the rest - do yourself a big favor - LEAVE THEM ALONE..........deal in cash....

You can't stop the offers coming in the mail - but you sure can shred or burn them............!!!!! Don't be so quick to sign you name on the dotted line...........

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.

Just a thought if you get a card and they are as much trouble for you as they are for me. Give the card to an accountability partner. Someone you can trust of course, and only let them give it to you to use if you have an emergency.

My husband and I did debt consolidation, one of the first things we did was cut up cards, the second thing was all credit card applications, etc., go straight to the trash in little pieces. We are thinking about having one for emergency purposes and even prepaying a set amount on it, but will wait for a while and hope to improve credit score. This was a tough decision, that was a long time in coming but I am glad we did it.
But to answer your question, you may do the opt out thing with the credit bureaus but I am sure that it will only just slow down the amount of offers that you receive. How hard is it to just tear it up before you have a chance to think about it? Why even bother to open it? Good Luck.
I'll be watching, you may never know when or how, but I'll be there. I am there now....
