Going to be on the news

Hello everyone, newbie here. Great site, you have to love the internet these days.

I am about to file personally and on two businesses. I was sued by two different people who claimed sickness due to mold growth. I lost one case and I'm going to lose the other. My creditors started getting scared and called in my credit lines and demanded payments on 30 days instead of 90. I own a medium sized development/construction company and credit lines are an absolute necessity.

Here is my problem. The combined amount is about 2-3 million unsecured. It is unsecured because the buildings were done and the bank loans paid off, but suppliers and sub contractors had not been paid yet.

I live in a large city, but due to the amount one of the local TV stations has been hunting for me. I came home on Monday and noticed a Suburban parked in front of my home. I open the garage (I'm driving my H2 of course) and the reporter could see my sports cars parked in there also. I heard him mention something about my cars, which I will maintain the payments on, as the door was closing. He then stood on the front porch with the camera man and banged on the door in front of a few of my neighbors. It was horrible. My wife and kids inside, crying. Anyone of you had this happen and if so what did you do?

Sounds like a BIG problem to be getting advice on a forum. I'm not kicking you when you are down and out, or saying your not welcome here, just think you should hire a VERY GOOD lawyer for your situation.

No offence, I happen to be an SUV GUY and I really like the Hummer, but Hummers and bankruptcys don't really mix. Between the payments and gas prices, especially with another storm on the way you may want to trade it in for a used Pathfinder.

Wait until LIGHTNING reads this and sees the hummer! LOL Trump be prepared.

I assume you have a lawyer, business bankruptcy can be complex, especially if you have litigation.

If you don't have a lawyer, you better get one, especially one that specializes in business bankruptcy.

I really don't know what you are asking...How to handle the reporters?, or How to deal with you family? what?

hhou812hh - hit the nail on the head, no pun intended for your contracting company. Where is the storm, thunder & lightening when you need it, I can't wait for his answer to this (of course he probably does have good advice)
My questions are: are you incorporated? are you D. trump? (if so you should know the legal ins and outs) are you the president of the company? do you receive a salary? what state you are in? Because if you had a good lawyer to start with you should have an "escape route" already.
Advice - start with a "good" attorney and listen
2nd - do you have an escape route planned? another residence maybe? lend someone the hummer and the sports cars, rent a hoop di car. Change your phone #
3 - this is situtation is probably way over our heads to be of any real help. Sorry can't be real encouraging, except about the lawyer.
I'll be watching, you may never know when or how, but I'll be there. I am there now....

First of all, if you aren't an LLC or a Corp., you should be.

No businessperson should put their own property in jeopardy by mixing their business and personal wealth. You say you are filing PERSONALLY and on two businesses. I'm hoping you didn't comingle.

As for dealing with the press, the best thing is to hire a PR firm and let them handle your press.
Otherwise, you won't know how to stop the paparazzi. And NO, you shouldn't be dealing with this yourself. Resist the notion to go talk to the cameras.

              Get thyself to:
              1. A financial consultant
              2. A lawyer
              3. A PR specialist
              4. A nunnery. (Just kidding about the nunnery, but the press isn't allowed in.)

Pinktiger you forgot the used car lot also. A move to New Orleans or Houston might be a good place to start a new business, cure the mold issue first. Please keep us updated because this aludes to a long battle. Sell the hummer, get Trump's attorney, 'cause buddy it sounds like you are going to need it.

WHEW.. makes my mom's $20k cc case look like a walk in the park..

Good luck to you. I would worry about the angry contractors who haven't been paid.. and the people who got sick while working for you.. they might not like the fact you have a H2 and a sports car and they're SOL. :s
