I sold an item on ebay as a favor for my ex over the weekend (a $300 sporting good item). I received payment through Paypal and withdrew the money to give to him. When I called him to let him know the item sold he told me to keep the money. You see, I recently found out that I have to pay $2,000 for my 2008 income taxes because our divorce was finalized eight days too soon. He told me to keep the money and put it toward what I owe the IRS because he feels bad about my tax situation.
I filed my BK last Thursday. He gave the item to me over the weekend, I listed it as a fixed price listing and it sold right away. Now I have this payment showing into my Paypal account for $300, the ATM withdrawal and now I have the cash. Do I need to let my attorney know about this? All of this also jogged my memory because I didn't list my Paypal account as a bank account (not sure that it is) because I haven't received any payments in 7-8 months.
Should I do anything with this? I have nothing to hide and I want to do the right thing without creating a problem. I can amend my documents and exempt the money I made from the sale if need be.
