With the credit crunch have some questions

I know with the current credit crunch every one is feeling the pinch. So having a chp7 BK is also hurting my chances of getting credit. Pretty much I am trying to reestablish my credit from my past. When I decided to fill BK I acquired a few late reports on my credit added in the BK it dropped my fico to a 550. Since being discharged I haven't applied for credit. I have saved up money and been driving a used old car. Problem is now that car is dying and I don't have the credit to get a new one. I was told to get a credit card but no company will touch me with my BK. Most dealers are saying no with the current crunch as well. I talked to my local credit union and they said with the economic situation they won't do it either. So what can I do to improve my score fast or is there some where I can get a loan to pay on to help my credit in order to refinance? My credit shows a BK and a government study loan that I pay on that doesn't report.

Any tips would be great. I would like to finance so I can get some thing reliable with a warranty, buying a car in cash worked for a while until it starting breaking down.

I'm not sure in the current climate there will be any easy way to quickly improve ones credit rating.

I know how you feel though. I have not attempted to get a loan or credit card since discharge, I just decided it was best not to. However in the last month I've had a lot of work done on my car, around a thousand dollars (all cash from emergency fund). I was beginning to wonder if it might be better to get another car.

If you have a family member that can cosign for the loan you might have better luck.
