I'm going to turn in my paperwork to the court tomorrow...

I am going to turn in my paperwork to the court tomorrow. Is there anything I need to know before going? I am taking two copies, one for me and one for them.

This is a huge step for me. I have had the paperwork done for a while but I just haven't had the time to drive there. I can't wait until this is done!

    Thanks everyone! Heather

I'd make 1 more copy just in case.

Ok, thanks for the advice! Can I ask why I might need one more. I will definitely make an extra copy, just curious as to why I might need another. Thanks again!

Hmm just in case, never can tell one might get damaged or something in transit.

Gotcha! I live very far from the court so that would be a HUGE bummer if something happened to a copy! Thanks again :-)

You will need another copy of documents to send to the trustee when they request prior to your 341 meeting. You should receive something from the trustee once they are assigned your case that lists documents that they need from you so the extra copy will have been made already.

            Discharged: 4/3/09

NoMoreRed... does this copy that the trustee needs, need to be stamped by the bankruptcy court, or just a regular old copy? Thanks so much :-)

Look on your dstricts website and see how many copies are required for filing. Different districts have different requirements. I believe the court charges 50 cents a page to make copies.

And before you go, go over your list of required documents at least twice and make absolutely sure you have everything.

Look at your districts requirement before you go.

( I forgot one that I was positive I had, and was dismissed-yikes- but I fixed the error)

Before you leave the clerks area, ask him/her if their are any deficiencies in your filing. ( they may tell you , they may not)

And check your mail in case they send a deficiency notice. I would venture to guess that more cases are dismissed over human error in forgetting documents than anything else ( although I really have no statiscal evidence to back that up )

                Good luck!

Thanks dingdong! I am going to probably be one of those people who forgot something so obvious. I have checked my paperwork a gazillion times. It's always the ones that over do it that miss something ;-)

The trustee will be requesting documents from you such as statements, 401k, insurance policies etc. Those are not necessary to be stamped by the court. My attorneys advice to me was....when the trustee sends a paper listing what they need from you then send only what's listed on the paper...nothing more, nothing less. The trustee will have access to whatever you file with the court.

Good Luck....crossing my fingers for you.
