Has anyone used an online filing service or know anything about them? I will not be able to afford an attorney by the oct 17 deadline, so I'm considering using an online service like www.usabankruptcyassociates.com and filing myself. I need to file chapter 7 and I have no valuable possessions to lose. I don't own a car, however my roommate has an extra car which I am allowed to use as long as I properly maintain it and do any necessary repairs. So I do have auto expenses even though I don't own one. So my 2 biggest fears are, that this online company could possibly make an error with the paperwork, and even if they don't, the court may throw my case out based on claiming to have auto expenses without even owning a vehicle. Does anyone know if this plan is a good or bad idea, and would I have an oppurtunity to explain my expenses to the trustee/court without the case being possibly thrown out or automatically rejected?

I'm using the software and it's fairly easy to use, but I also purchased a copy of Nolo's "How to File for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy" You can download the full PDF version online for $14.99. Between the two, and this forum, it has made my preparations sooooo much easier.
Hope this helps!

I used form 7 - was very pleased. Any questions that I ran into as I was completing my paperwork could be answered here. When I was finished, it almost seemed too simple. The paperwork looked professional and clean, while I've heard some of the online preparers send back paperwork that requites plenty of corrections. Most of my information is from personal experience or HOURS and HOURS of online research. When you're searching online, keep in mind there is no guarantee that the info is completely up to date, and your situation is unique from anyone else's. Do your homework, and consult with an attorney so you can make an informed decision.

I purchased form 7 and am getting started. A couple questions so far are, cash on hand: I'm assuming thats cash on hand minus the (200 bucks) filing fee? And, date claim was incurred? Does this mean when account was opened perhaps, or when it was placed in collections? What if I don't know what the date was?Last edited by FilingOnMyOwn; 10-04-2005, 05:16 AM.
