First off, I want to thank everyone who participates in these forums. You all have been a godsend in valuable information and advice. I filed pro se today in Colorado. I used the form7.com software and let me tell you it is worth every penny. At first we purchased Socrates forms from Office Depot. DO NOT DO THIS! It is a ripoff at 30 bucks plus and if it is just the forms you need, they are readily available on the internet. We waited about 30 minutes in line and about another 10 minutes for the clerk to get everything in order. Now for the bad news, the clerk gave me a 341 meeting date of Nov. 22nd. My wife and I took vacation that week to travel back home to Atlanta to be with family for the Thanksgiving week. I work for an airline so we fly for free, so I don't have to explain to the trustee how I can afford airplane tickets and still be bankrupt. Is it possible to get a continuance under these circumstances? Even moving the meeting earlier would be great. How accomodating are the trustees usually? Has anyone had something happen like this or am I just SOL?

This question came up several times on this forum and my advice would be to show up at the 341 since this is your FINANCIAL LIFE your talking about and since you work for an airline can't you just change your flight plans for a day?
No offense but I always roll my eyes up at these questions since I'm the kind of person that can't enjoy a holiday or vacation knowing something so big like bk is just lingering.
I'd rather get the meeting overwith so I can relax more on the holiday, especially while watching the fb games. That's just me though.

We were informed by our atty that Trustees will not reschedule for non-emergency situations. Obviously, one knows what could happen if one fails to appear at the hearing.Bankruptcy History:
Chapter 7 filed - 10/12/2005 - Asset
Discharged - 02/16/2006
Case Closed - 11/08/2007

I personally would take a later flight.
Or, if the meeting falls in the middle of your vacation, perhaps you can fly to your destination for a few days, and fly back for your meeting, then resume your vacation afterwards? But if the flight is longer than an hour or so, that might not be feasible. Just a thought.
Filed Chapter 7 (Medical Bills) - 12/16/04
341 Meeting - 1/28/05 | Discharged - 3/31/05 | Case Closed, No Assets - 7/5/05
Update 2/15/11 - Still totally debt-free except for the mortgage, which we're paying down quickly!

Normally, rescheduling a 341 meeting is not an option - unless your dead or in the hospital..... Vacations - I'm sure the Trustee would ask you which is more important in your life...
Try to rearrange your flight schedule for in the evening instead of the morning of the 341 meeting....
Don't "rock the boat" with the Trustee -

I ran into this situation as well - I was out of town the first week of October on business. My 341 was luckily scheduled before hand but I was told straight out by my attorney that I couldn't go if my 341 landing in between or my case would be thrown out. I'm w/hh - you're family will be there the day before and the day after, unfortunately you'll have to reschedule to be with them.

Thanks for the information everyone! After a little debate with the wife, we decided to forego our trip to the ATL and spend Thanksgiving in Denver. We could have traveled the day before Thanksgiving but being that its one of the busiest travel days of the year and the fact that we are non-revving, it's probably not a smart move. Thanks again for all of the help.
