    Liability

I am about to file for bankruptcy. I am on time with my rent. My sister co-sign to get me in the apartment due to bad credit. Will this bankruptcy affect my sister in any way since she has co-signed on my lease agreement. I have never missed a payment. I am in good standing on my lease.

Typically it wouldn't. The majority of apartment leases are only reflected on one's credit report if they fail to pay outstanding debts to the apartment community. In other words, if you were to obtain a copy of your credit report from all three CRA's your apartment lease wouldn't be on them. Most importantly, do not list your apartment on your bankruptcy petition!

Let me know if I need to clarify my response.

    Good Luck!
