Any experience with Sears and Best Buy Cards?

    Hi Everyone:

I did not know until I started doing some readings and joining various forums that Sears and Best Buy cards are secured cards meaning that anything you purchased on them are subject to be taken back in case of a bk filing? How accurate is this? If I purchased items years ago on these cards (some I no longer have) can I protect these items under my exemptions? Example my kids 4 year old computer from Sears that has suffered from 2 major crashes, an A/C, freezer and dryer? Besides why would Sears want back old stuff?

If in fact that they are considered "secured" would I have to list them under the same schedule as my car which I am still paying on? And if so, I shouldn't have to feel forced to re-affirm on these items. The only thing I plan on re-affirmimg is my car because I am in my last year of paying it off.

Any experience with these companies driving a moving van to my house for these things?

A friend of mine who filed BK had a Sears account years ago. She and her husband had purchased a washer and dryer and one of those gyms for the kids to play on in the backyard. Sears showed up at their 341 and said they had to pay for those items or they wanted them back. They said they would not charge interest and they didnt. They paid for them but I have read Sears is not so proactive now.

When my neighbor filed over 10 yrs ago, Sears showed up and wanted the merchandise. My neighbors were spiteful, broke the merchandise before giving it back.. I heard they cut the cords off the merchandise... ....harsh geesh!

          good luck...

pink_amnot, tell us the truth. is was you wasnt it?

besides, the cord is easy to replace. better to open it up and cut a few things on the control panel. that costs $300 easy.

They mentioned they messed with other things, but they did the cord to Sears would notice it right away I guess?

no one would even care about a cord. they all know its easy to fix. costs them $5. i would have taken a fresh hot steamy poo poo on top of the apppliance instead to send a message.

Yeah that was weak lol. They should have competely dissassembled the inner parts and poured them back in a heap, then closed it back up

Not that I would do anything like that. But if you're gonna do it, gotta do it right I spose.

I purchased like $400 of clothes from sears about a week and half right before we met wit the attn for the first time, so like 3.5 weeks before we filed. They never asked for the clothes back. We had no money and it cold, my girls needed winter clothes.
