I filed under the old laws but my case is still pending. I was hoping to buy a house after I get my discharge papers. How long does it usually take before you can buy a house? I also have student loans that will not be discharged I have not made payments in more than 10 years. How can I go about getting then combined so I will only have one payment? Thanks

Once you are discharged, you can legally obtain any new debts you want. However its in your best interest to aggresively pursue the immediate correction of all items on your credit report, which can take 3 months or more. A better credit score will get you a better interest rate. If you have 20% down, you should have no trouble finding a lender to finance you. Only 3-5% down, and you may have to go FHA or pay a ridiculous interest rate. My roommate bought 2 houses within one year of his discharge, however it was at interest rates 3% over the average rate.

I didn't even read that part. You'll have to straighten something out with that I'm sure before you can expect anything decent as far as credit offers. Maybe consolidation or something along those lines.Originally posted by tamramI also have student loans that will not be discharged I have not made payments in more than 10 years.
