I know the answer is probably "no," but can you just fill out your petition and schedules using pen? If not, how can you fill the forms out on your computer? I downloaded the forms from the Dept. of Justice site, but they are in adobe acrobat reader format and won't let me type the info in. I know this is a really dumb question. Thanks for any help.

Hey Curious:
Check your local court's website if they have one. There should be a section on "Local Rules". It will pretty much tell you how to prepare the paperwork or give them a call. I am from NY and I checked my local court's website and they said that the paperwork should be printed or typewritten. I guess that for people with bad handwriting its best to type. As for those BK forms that you can fill in - but not save visit this website. You will need the Adobe PDF software (free) to use them. This has the most basic forms. Not your additional local forms. Hope this helps.

There have been people on here report that they have submitted handwritten petitions.
Also, someone else commented that if you have a full version of Adobe Acrobat, you can convert the forms into an editable Word Document that you can type in. Maybe that will work for you??!! If you don't have the complete software you need, downloads are free off the net.Filed Ch 7 - 09/06

I've seen that too.Originally posted by djkmiddle district of florida/orlando allows hand printed forms, although they do request that the creditors matrix be typed or computer generated
There may be a specific format the Court likes so they can just pop in the floppy or disc and generate the mailers to the Creditors.
Might not be a bad idea to call and ask how the Court wants that part even if you do submit handwritten Schedules in your Petition.Filed Ch 7 - 09/06

I would, if all possible, even if the BK rule say's its OK, make every attempt to provide a very clean typewritten bk petition. Just my opinion.Chapter 13 Filed 4/03/06  341 Meeting Complete 5/11/06 :yes2:

Even if your local court says okay to the handwritten forms they want the creditor matrix typed and saved to a floppy a certain way. In NY where I am from they will cut a pro se filer some slack if they can't produce this on a floppy however they are suppose to direct a pro ser to resources i.e. computers to save this info onto a disk. At least that's what the local rules say. I plan to type up my forms through use of those fillable pdf bk forms and I just got some ink for my electric typewriter that I haven't used in ages.

Here is a link to the U.S. Court Bankruptcy Forms data enabled forms:
There are PDF files that allow you to "fill-in" the blanks--one problem, you can't save the information if you use the regular Adobe Acrobat PDF Viewer. Instead, get something like CutePDF form filler that allows you to fill-in AND save the forms as you are working on them:
