As far as I know, its commonly done. Any town I have ever lived in, that has been the case. Its usually in the public notice section. In our town, they have a listing that gives your name, address, and whether it was chapter 13 or chapter 7. (It also gives your bra size, and whether or not you are circumised if you are a male. Just kidding on that..... HEE HEE but you almost feel that exposed! ) In our town it comes out once a week, maybe every day if its a big city. I guess since its a public record, thats the reason behind it.
We have lived in this town for almost 25 years and know a TON of people, and while I would have preferred it not be in there, we lived through it and I figured the ones who had a problem with it dont really know our circumstances and don't matter anyway.
