    Question on Pacer billing.

I've signed up for a Pacer account.

Just reading the agreement and unless I'm reading it wrong it says that you will be charged for 8 cents per page for any search results.

So if I want to check out a couple of local Attorneys is it going to cost me an arm and a leg?

Seems like there could be a lot of pages if I just search for a name.

Some pages will cost more than 8 cents, Not sure what the attny thing will cost, but as you progress type in just your SSN ,and if the date of last filing has not changed (on your case) then nothing has happened and you need not go further, you will not be charged. If you use your name or the others you will be charged.I've heard of people having bills in the hundreds of dollars so be careful.

Searching for an attorneys name would probably pull up thousands of pages. There have been people on here that have gotten outrageous pacer bills doing things like this. Be careful.

One webpage on PACER can be 30, 40, 50 billable pages, or more on PACER.

When you pull up an attny by name, you'll get a listing of every case that attny has ever filed. That one webpage, depending on how long the attny has been practicing and how many cases he/she has handled, can easily be 50 billable pages. Much less for a younger attny or an attny who does not handle many BK's.

Looking at the docs of one case, PACER may say something to the effect of "This is 36 billable pages, but you will only be charged for 30 pages."
        Filed Ch 7 - 09/06
        Discharged - 12/2006
Officially Declared No Asset - 03/2007
        Closed - 04/2007

I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.

i've never done attorney searches, but check to see if there are fields to specify chapter 7 cases within a specific date range, and then you could narrow it down to like maybe the last week of chapter 7 cases. Still, perhaps alot depending on the filings, but how else can you research a certain attorney without spending money?
