How did you get the money for your attorney?

How did you save enough money for your attorney?

I didn't make it to my second attorney meeting today--got so sick to my stomach that I couldn't leave the office. Rescheduled for next week.

But after yesterday's visit, the "bad news" was $2500 plus fees. And, of course, up front.

Sounds on the high end, but even if someone told me $1500 plus fees, I still have no idea where to get the money.

Every time I sit in my living room, I catch myself looking around and asking myself "what else can I sell?" Looking for either doing more on eBay or a garage sale and there just isn't anything left besides knicknacks and books--which hardly sold at the last one.

    Any ideas?

I think for my lawyer he charged me about 983.00. I think i gave him maybe 2 or 3 hundred up front, then he let me pay him 150.00 every other week. He said he was able to do a payment plan and i took him up on it. He had me write out post dated checks for all the amounts for every other week. And since i got paid weekly at the time i would take cash to his office and take the check. If i missed to give him cash (which i never did) he would deposit the check, which i knew there wasnt money in the account. I say ask if ur able to make payments. If u have to whip out the phone book and ask other lawyers if your able to make payments to them. Good Luck!!

I think my criteria for picking a lawyer is starting to go from quality to who has a payment plan. ;)

Used my tax refund. Trustee didn't bat an eye when it was noted that that's where it went.

That is considered a priority creditor.

Think the lawyer would take a credit card? **just kidding**

Our temporary security guy at work has a cousin that is a BK lawyer so the lawyer and I chatted for a few minutes yesterday.

He was appalled that this other lawyer was charging $2500 for a Ch 7--he said that must be for a Ch 13--a complicated one, but I said no way.

This lawyer will do it for $850, but no free consultation. That's the part that bugs me. He said the initial consultation would be $150 and it could be applied if I decided to retain him. Then I said that I was in another county (he'd have to go to a different court than normal) and he said that would cost an extra $100, no $150 for that.

Guess I'll see what happens next week.
