    AMEX After BK

Has anyone ever gotten an AMEX card after chapter 7? Here is my story:

Filed for Ch 7 in April 05 40K of which was AMEX debt and was discharged in 8/05 and have gotten Orchard, Household and Capital One since.

I have a corporate AMEX card which was issued in January. My company signed as a guarantor but I have to make payments to AMEX myself. Does anyone think that AMEX at any point will give me a personal card in my own right again as I have been making timely payments on the corporate card?

Not a chance. Know several who BK'd on Amex in the 80's, no dice. I BK'd my beloved AMEX Blue, that is a loss. AMEX is gone forever.

What if you accepted a job with a company and they used AMEX? I remember my last sales job, during the interview they asked me if there would be any problem with my getting an Amex card. I am wondering if now I would have been able to get that job.

See that's the messed up thing u should have kept the Amex although u owed them thats the hardest card but the most rewarding. But like robiv said not a chance. It's hard for average credit holders to get accepted on so I doubt they will re-issue it to someone who BK'd them unless u now accumalated millions and can work something out with them.

I do have one issued in my name although it is a corporate one and I am responsible for paying it on a monthly basis. Still no chance of their ever moving it over to a personal card because I bk'd them last year?

Let's say there's a 0.05% chance you will be allowed to have a personal AmEx card - I've learned to never say never . However, as others here have already told you, AmEx is well-known in the credit industry for not ever allowing a former customer who files bk against them to get a personal AmEx card again.

Just curious....why is having a personal AmEx card so important to you?

Wait....so you can never get an Amex card if you filed bankruptcy or if you ever filed bankruptcy on them? I know a lot of people that have an Amex through Costco.

I hope Orchard Bank doesn't feel the same way.

True story about Amex: I had a Ch13 discharged in the early 80s that included Amex as a result of a divorce. Fast forward over 20 years - a company I worked for at the time submitted my name for their Corporate Amex card. They did not provide Amex w/ my SSN and Amex did not pull my credit. Everything was in the company's name/credit. Amex denied me the card anyway.

Now the rest of the story is that the owner of the company got on the phone w/ Amex and chewed them out over the issue saying that the company is the one responsible for the bill not me. Amex caved and issued the card. After I left that company, I applied for an Amex card (in my own name/credit) for my new position and was immediately approved. I guess Amex removed me from the "do not issue" list.

Amex is handy for business travel, but to hold a grudge for life as they do... no one is THAT good.

Okay well that proves everyone elses statement correct when they say AMEX WILL NOT ISSUE the card I guess the comp u work for has a HUGE and very promising acct with them and thats why they cave cause if it was the every day mom and pop biz I dont think they would have issued. Well good 4 u by getting a amex.

It may well be a short-lived victory. As we prepare to file Ch7 which will NOT include Amex, I fully expect that they will cancel my Amex (used for company reimbursed expenses only) anyway and I'll be back on their black list even though they aren't to be included in the BK.

Yes, I can and plan to (just in case) but Amex has a history of cancelling cards even if they are re-affirmed.
