    Changing Phone Numbers?

I know that collections have an uncanny way to find people....but would it be helpful to change my phone number once I go delinquent?

    Has anyone ever tried this?

    We moved. Changed States even.

When we moved, I didn't update our Creditors on the new phone number. Even got an unlisted phone number. Didn't matter. In a short period of time, they got the number.

Don't waste your money on a phone number change. Get an answering machine instead. Something you'll have to use after this is all over.

I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.

Cancel your landline phone, just get a cell phone. There is still no law mandating cell phone companies to give out information to anyone else other than law enforcement

They'll still get your cell and call it. Daily. I found the answering machine to be the best way to deal with them. You could also use caller ID. I've read on other postings that you should also clearly state your name on the message so they can't say they didn't know it was you. I guess they can use that to justify calling other people looking for you.
If you want a laugh check out youtube's Judge Judy collection call. I think somebody on this forum linked it. Hilarious!

CW I just watched this clip and laughed so hard. Each creditor should get a taste of this. Thanks for making my night.

We changed ours twice b/c we were still getting calls. Did not take more than a week or two. but I figured b/c I was giving my new number out on the internet for purchasing or registering for this or that. Have since stopped that, changed the number one more time. Over amonth and NO MORE CALLS-yay! Don't give out new number to ANYONE or anything.

We've just gone past 30 days late on nearly a dozen accounts and there have been calls but not the flood I expected. It'll be another month or more before we file so I've already implemented plan B.

I have DSL Internet and I bought an Internet phone. I paid $60 for the phone, $35 for an (optional) local telephone number for a year and I'll pay 1.5 Cents per minute for outgoing calls. The few other people I know with Internet phones can call each other for free and incoming calls are free. The Minutes are pre-paid so they're not so bad and there's no monthly fees whatsoever. I'm hoping this will do the trick!

              Anyone else tried this?
Discharged November 2008 100 days after filing no-asset Chapter 7. We intended to let a two-year-old vehicle go back to the bank and reaffirm an inexpensive ten-year-old SUV and our home mortgage. In the end we surrendered ALL of our vehicles and reaffirmed NOTHING. We'll "ride through" our mortgage after the court ruled it an undue hardship.
