Wife got judgement on premarital debt

When it rains it pours:

Wife just got a levy on a judgment from 2005.
Her x left her with $30,000 of debt and she has no income or assets.

Now she is terrified. they tried to levy a joint account that we had but it was closed.

Am I liable for this?

She may just file BK and get rid of it.

CA is a communal property state I think , which means yes they could assess your property etc. It might take them time to do it.

I can't remember if you've filed or not, it might be better to file jointly with this last news.

Boy you have it don't you! Contact your attorney about this one - I am assuming the debt was a result of her prior divorce and the amount left to her from that? Wishing you all the best!!!

Even though California is a community property state YOU should not be held liable for her debts which are a result of her previous marriage.
Since she has no income or assetts don't worry about it.

i am pretty sure that if these debts are from a previous marriage and have nothing to do with you, you should be fine. just dounle check and speak to an atty tho.
