    ss benefits

i know ss benefits are exempt from most garnishments or judgements, except govt and child support liens. but i was wondering if there is a max amount that can be siezed monthly from your check. i had heard that 15% was the max they can take in a month, is this correct? or can they take as much as they want, and leave you homeless or in a shelter?

First, are you anticipating the garnishment from IRS or child support? Here is what is exempt from garnishment, in Florida: SS, SSI, Insurance proceeds or annuity payments, retirement payments and the first $500 wages of the head of household.

IRS can go after you but I’m not sure of the percentage. ‘Hub

no, i am safe as far as garnishments,as i am judgement proof, but i was reading about someone that was having ssi or ss disability garnished for 60% of their ssi income, for a student loan, and i thought they could not take that much. i mean whats the point of ss or ssi but to give elderly or poor some sort of meager existence, and if they are able to take most of that, then nothing is safe.
