    New charges after filing?

Hi I'm new to the forum, recently filed for chapter 7.

I filed and put on the bk the following: cell phone service, old apartment gas bill, car lease.

Well today i received a bill from the gas company saying I owed money from after the day of filing. I never called in to turn off the gas and I moved out and broke the lease in October 2008. Well somebody must have moved in or the apt decided to put the gas in their name in January a few days after I filed bankruptcy.

Then I get a bill from the car lease that was repoed before I filed for 13,000.

I also put at the time my cell phone service provider because I intended on switching companies and knew they would charge me a large cancellation fee. Well I stopped paying once I filed and eventually canceled once things were smooth with the new company. I haven't heard yet but now I'm worried i'm going to be stuck with a 500 dollar bill.

Please chime in with your suggestions and or ideas. I'm feeling like the BK was a waste of time now . ha ha. I live in OHIO by the way.

    Thanks for reading!

Are you discharged from your Ch 7?
Did you have an attorney for your Ch 7?

The repo was prior to your filing so should be included in the petition so they can not come after you for the deficiency. Check with your attorney.

The post petition debt you are responsible to pay. If you moved within a certain time period of the filing (I have to check the time period, I believe it is within 60 days) you are not responsible for the balance of the lease if you disclosed in the petition you were REJECTING the residential lease.

Same for your cell phone, you can reject the contract in your BK. Most of these answers have to do with how your BK was filed. Time to read your petition and talk to your attorney.

I am not an attorney. None of my advice is legal advice in any way..
