Can anyone who buys the debt from the cc co get a judgment and sieze your bank account, or just the original CC Co? Can CC co or the people that buy the debt get a judgment against a retirement acct (401K or IRA)? I am so worried they will take what little I have for medical. My only income is SS I just started to receive. THXS

OK, I am getting this:Originally posted by marCan anyone who buys the debt from the cc co get a judgment and sieze your bank account, or just the original CC Co? 1. You are 62 or older. Cool my mother worked till she was 69 and she only retired due to medical conditions. (And for 5 years, she looked into brain surgery as a way to change things..no luck)
2. You probably don't own a home.
3. You have a IRA, 401K and/or SS
OK, here's what I was able to find out:
************************************************** **
A judgment creditor cannot levy on your 401(k), but they can levy on your bank account and money from a 401(k) distribution would be vulnerable if it was in your bank account at the time the levy occurred.
************************************************** ***
Now I would STRONGLY suggest you contact a lawyer for full and complete protection and advice..I'm NOT a lawyer and sure wouldn't want you to take what I found on the net as Gospel

My home was foreclosed on a few days ago. I was in bad financial shape from gambling debt, then hurt myself at work, and now had to file for widows benifits (SS) because I can't work, and it was going to take to long to get disability. I have an atty for WC, but it will take over a year before I even will be medically released. My retirement accts. are all I have for health ins, but I can hold off for a while. I know my ss is exempt, so I'm guessing from you post I should be ok on 401 and Ira. I couldn't find what I needed on the net, but will look again. Thanks for your time.

OK, but again I strongly encourage you to see a lawyer...In this case (Like any other) there are ALWAYS "Differences" which can either help or hurt you. Be safe, secure a legal rep if you can.
Here's what I used to find the quote I gave:
creditor cannot levy on your IRA
creditor cannot levy on your 401(k)
