    Collection from another state.

OK, I got a collection letter...Collection company is in KS..I'm in WA.

Do they have to come to WA to get the judgement, or can they just get it there and then come after me?

Plus..Any idea of a time line?

    (Note, amount is for $846)

I have the scumbags JBC Legal that call and harass me, I am in IL they are out of NJ. JBC Legal has threatened me with lawsuits and garnishments. This debt is from 1999. It was for a bounced check for $500. Now they are trying to tell me I owe $2025. I fell on the floor. I told my lawyer, and he said that they have NO jurisdiction here in IL. Last time they called I told them that and hung up.....LOL

Also do you investigation on the company, JBC Legal represents itself as a law firm, and through info it has been found out that there is no license to practice law, so they can't sue me, it's all a big threat.

good luck and keep us updated.

      It's not JBC, it's Encore.

I did a search (Finally) and find they are called a "Bottom Feeder" basically, they buy debt for pennies and try and get what they can above that...(JBC is also listed! Go figure )

Not that they will, as my situation has REALLY changed (I'm out as of end of Feb and after what's happened today, not sorry about it) and so, not going to worry as by the time they do anything, I'm elsewhere!

They'll have to hire an atty licensed in your state and sue you in your county court. In OK that usually takes 60 - 90 days to judgment once a local atty files suit. Don't know if they would even place an $800 debt w/ an atty or not. It seems like they sue for less money these days - probably because the JDB's get them for next to nothing.

Encore can get a pretty ugly, but they dropped us like a hot rock once our atty contacted them & told 'em to knock it off. Nice at first, then numerous threatening calls at work... you know the drill.

You're certainly a winner, Genenco. Is there any person on this planet you haven't screwed over? My holiday wish to you is that one day you become an adult.

              Lightning,
I find it extremely hard to believe that you would Know anything about being adult. If your manners are any indication of your personality, you are in sad shape.

I find it extremely hard to believe that people who blame nameless, faceless companies for being broke are adults. Obviously you guys couldn't even pass grade-school math. If you have $1, you can't spend $2.

It would certainly be educational if just one of you brilliant financial geniuses told me of a specific situation where someone forced you to use a credit card against your will.

Whine, whine, whine. Blame, blame, blame. And yet, you take all the credit for whatever good comes to you.

That, by itself, gives you the right to judge others? Not very mature. Your mother should be proud! Maybe you should start your own website and help educate the public about fiscal responsibility. I'm sure the credit card industry would finance your endeavor.

When you accomplish that you could then educate people on how to avoid life threatning injuries and disabilities that their insurance won't cover.

Then you could educate folks how to obtain another job when the company they work for downsizes or files bankruptcy. By the way, do you feel a company filing bankruptcy is any different than an individual doing so?

Or, for something much simpler you could tone down your replies and disdain and try to actually offer some folks some good solid advice about how to avoid bankruptcy, or how to avoid this terrible experience in the future.

Why not share your secrets to success with some people that could really use some good solid advice.

Or, you could lobby the senate and the house to make bankruptcy illegal, of course some of those folks have been been bankrupt themselves, so you may not be well received.

Lots of choices out there Lightning......why not make yourself constructive and make a change in the world?

Just ignore the pimple faced pencil neck. Hes a pitiful joke....gets his jollies off on being belligerent on a forum since he knows he couldn't get by with saying anything like that to someone's face. I imagine its an alias of somebody else, maybe a mod or the owner of the forum since they allow this nonsense. If I was running the forum, his butt would've been banned a long time ago....makes me lose some respect for the people running this forum. I know a lot about forums, I've ran two of them before. They had too many like this joker constantly posting for the sake of starting SH!* and others that were supposed to help me keep things cleaned up stopped. I said the heck with it and shut em down since I was working too much. Thats ok, karma works its way around, he'll be humbled one day.

                      Losing It and MrDebtster,

Lightening is often banned from the forum for his "blunt" attitude......and remarks.....
BUT at times he offers very constructive criticism, ideas, and suggestions that DOES HELP OTHERS.......
Lightening is very outspoken, blunt, and shows no mercy when he does speak. Sometimes "we" get upset because underneath it all - some of what he says is really true.
In my bankruptcy case, medical circumstances caused it, but my hand was on the credit card. I should have claimed bankruptcy before it all got out of control..... but I thought I could get things straightened out. Poor judgement on my part.
Yes, we mods keep Lightening under control - he often gets banned a few days for wanting to "fight"..... and warned for his actions on this forum.
But we also see the need for "constructive criticism" which helps all of us make better financial decisions in the future.
Don't let Lightening "rattle your cage" - THATS WHAT HE LIKES BEST.....
Listen to him - disagree with him - and take his opinion for what it's worth...

Minny, I do agree with alot of what you said about Lightening. Every one has their own opinion. It is not neccessarily his opinion it is the manner in which he delivers it. I personally think that he is a chicken and a coward, full of hot air and laced with a large dose of bullsh*#. He is only a legend in his own mind.
I'll be watching, you may never know when or how, but I'll be there. I am there now....

I have agreed before Minny with you about Lightning, but think that as a source of "Almost" constant irritation and snide or even rude remarks, I think we'd would be better off without him..

But my opinion is just that...Mine, I leave the full decision to the mods..Long may they rule

Someday Lightening will just "disappear" and then another will replace him probably....... so let's just deal with Lightening - we've gotten to know him pretty well.....
And yeah, he does strike a "raw nerve" now and then...... and politeness is not one of his better qualities.....

But he is a good source if info - good and bad...

you probably could not get them out of bed for that much, if it was much
higher and worth it, they probably could hire a local attorney, but not for mere $900
