Yes, the debt was not consumer related, it was from a failed business.

Paladian-Press.com is a funky "black helicopters spying on us" sort of site, but they do have an interesting book section.

My take (and it is not from personal experience) is that with a judgment on your credit report, you aren't going to be buying real estate since no one will give you a mortgage. Judgments will linger on your Trans Union for about 10 years.

To lease a car requires a higher FICO than to buy it. Reason is there is no owner equity..ever.

Yeah, you could work under the table (against the law) or move to a non-wage garnishement state.

Might be hard to qualify for that car lease, house lease and utility hook up with only under the table wages though
NOTE: I am not a lawyer...any advice I give is for entertainment purposes only. Legal questions should be directed to competent counsel. I am just a troll. Or a Toad.

Somehow literally millions of illegal alien Mexicans are doing it in Arizona without any problems, and are so bold about it that they march right out in the streets proudly proclaiming their illegal alien status. Somehow they don't fear the possible problems you mentioned at all.

"I demand that you cease and desist from any communication with me."
Notice that I never actually mention or acknowledge the debt in my letter.

I attended ASU but finished up at the University of Oregon. ASU was so huge! Especially compared to the U of O. I thought it was funny when they had to name the ASU Life Sciences building "E" even though there was no "D" building yet, because they didn't want the abbreviation to be "LSD". The biggest problem with ASU was the parking. I was cheap so I only paid for "Lot 59" parking, which meant I had to walk for at least 30 minutes just to get to my first class. I didn't like riding those shuttle buses because they always seemed to take me way out of my way and ended up taking just about as long as walking.

Yep. That's how I did it. I was sued and I just asked for a continuance by telling them I was going to be out of town on the court date. A blatant lie, but it worked. I got about a month of breathing room and filed BK before the court date. Worked like a charm.
