    Structured Settlement

I am contemplating filiing for Chapter 7 in Mississippi. I have a personal injury settlement due to a workers compensation case that is payable in structured settlements of $5,000 every 3 years for the next 10 years. In order to pay down some debt, I tried to sell this settlement to one of those companies who offer to buy them, but was told the settlement was currently worth only a few thousand and no one was interested. Will I lose future pay-outs on this settlement if I file? Will the court look at the actual current worth of the award or do they look at the total value over time? The exemption for personal injury awards in MS is $10,000...will I be able to only keep that amount regardless of when I am due to receive it? If anyone has had a similar experience, I'd appreciate your feedback.

Pay no attention to anything I post. I graduated last in my class from a fly-by-night law school that no longer exists; I never studied or went to class; and I only post on internet forums when I'm too drunk to crawl away from the computer.

I'm in northeast MS. How would I know if the settlement would no longer be considered a workers compensation exemption?
