Can it be a homestead?

i own a house in Colorado, but because of job had to move to NYC, where i rent an apartment, as for the house it is occupied by tenants right now.I am planing to come back to CO later on, but becase of the recession not sure when,
my question is if i file a bancraptcy can i exempt the house?
