Where to find status of foreclosure? County Courthouse?

    Hi,

Well we're 30 days from the end of the 341, the stay was lifted on the house about 2 weeks ago. I went so far as to sign up on the sites that list pre-foreclosure properties and we are not there. I've received no certified letters or anything like that from the mortgage company. Prior to filing in September I don't believe I'd even gotten a notice of default but it's possible it is in the pile.

I'm in MA as I mentioned earlier. Where do I go to see if anything has been started? I presume the county courthouse I live in, but what specifically am I looking for there?

We are ironically moving very nearby and have an open ended move in date. Friends of ours moved south and tried to sell their home here and could not. We explained our situation and offered to move in for a few yars. They are thrilled, we are happy and we're coming out of it paying about $400 a month less than our first mortgage for a nicer home! We were going to jump and move in before Christmas for sentimental reasons but financially we don't want to be stupid. If we've got another 3 months of rent free living or more, we should take advantage of it and put that money away. Pride is one thing, stupidity is another !

Question is where do we go at the country courthouse and what are we asking for?

I'm not from MA, so this is 'general advice and is what I experienced in GA.
    1. Your county clerk's office, or someone in the land deeds section can help you find the details or point you in the right direction. The filing has to be recorded somewhere.
    2. In most jurisdictions, the FC process has to be 'publicly announced' so the county usually publishes the sale details for 4 succeeding weeks in advance of the sale in a local newspaper (not always the big/main paper) - again, the court clerk can advise which mouthpiece they use.

    Good Luck.

We're going to check on Monday. I've used Realtytrac and all the other foreclosure listings and still haven't found it. We have not received the sale notification and have not gotten anything via certified mail from the bank. We're planning on moving in two weeks anyway but I'm hoping this isn't going to drag on for ten years as the insurance is over 2k a year on this house.

Will update with what I find.
