Guideline for a Family of 2?

Hi all! I posted yesterday about being in the process finally of my divorce. I am tired of scraping by week to week and a job prospect has come up which will put my income up higher. In this state, believe me jobs are around $9 an hour so it's not gonna be sky high, but for a family of just me and my daughter, do you think it'll put me in a higher bracket where I cannot file bankruptcy to erase my debts or will I be made to do a 13? In this day and age, you can't hardly live on $9 an hour with rent, utilities, food, teenager, medical, gas........let's say I bring home about $1000 a month...will that hurt my chances here? Is there a guideline I can look at somewhere to check this out?

    Thanks!

How can anyone live on $9.00 an hour? That's only gross $360.00 a week! Your slightly above the national poverty level. I would say your safewith $1000 a month with a family of 2.

    Good luck.

Tradewiz.......... lots of people live on less than $9.00 an hour and they make it.............. they just do without a lot of things that aren't necessary in their lives...... and they spend their money wisely...........

A lot of times it's NOT how much you make, but how you use it!!!!

Lots of people live just above the proverty level and can get no financial help at all, where people below the proverty level can get assistance......

      Yes, life has its struggles...........

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.

Here's a link for you, Hope. You can access the DOJ approved Credit Counselors from there and get all the Means Testing info as well.

        http://www.usdoj.gov/ust/

Click on the Means Testing link. Then on the next page, make sure the drop down menu says 10/1/06 and after and hit go. When you get to the Means Test page, there's all kinds of links to the info you need to fill in the Means Test.

When you look at the info you'll note, the Median income for a family of 2 in Ohio is $46,376. So it sounds like you'll be well below that.

Being below the Median qualifies you to file a Ch 7.
        Filed Ch 7 - 09/06
        Discharged - 12/2006
Officially Declared No Asset - 03/2007
        Closed - 04/2007

I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.
