Must I really drive a beater that's going to break down now?

...I would like to stick with a toyota or honda....that actually runs...but I might have only $2K to put down...and making $1,600/ month with $755 for rent & water, $80 electric, $110 cell phone, $70 cable: $1,100.00 bills....leaves me $500 for gas, insurance & I don't think much toilet paper...please someone tell me that it would be cheaper to ride a bike to work! and I think I need a credit card, yeah...like another hole in my head!

    Amislander,

Nobody said it was going to be easy for a while, believe me I know........ I'm still fighting the battle of staying on top of things and trying to make ends meet, even after bankruptcy.......

I know what you mean, am still driving my peice of 1987 chrysler labaron.....bless her heart, she has served me well........

Somehow in the future I need to hike her up and put her out to pasture.

Cut every corner you possible can to try to survive, work parttime if you have too till you get straightened out.

Where there is a will there's a way!!!!!

    Good LUck..............

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.

Have you considered cancelling cable and switch to DishNetwork or DirectTV? You may be able to get a good deal when you call them up and ask about switching. They may sign you up for $25 a month for a year, or something similar to that.

Do you really need $110 in cellphone? Aren't there cheaper plans? I dunno. I carry a prepaid and only use it for urgent calls.

As for cars, $4-$5k will get you a pretty decent used car. Hate to say this. But stay with Japanese brands. The model years you are likely to get at that price range is about 93-96 max. The Japanese brands made in those years have better reliability record than those of American brands.

I have even seen $2.5k Toyota sedan that just keeps on going at over 160k miles...

We're right there with ya, Amis and Minny!

Started with paying the attny and the filing fee, and income taxes back in the spring. Since then, it's been car repairs, car repairs, car repairs, ONE set of tires, and more car repairs. The "youngest car" is 9 years old.

We're not even thinking about Christmas........ We're looking to the first of the year when we have to pay life insurance in January and auto insurance in February. And we still need to put tires on another car.

Even with no CC bills we're still behind the 8 Ball. Just can't get ahead.

I have some info that may be of interest. Ever thought of delivering pizza? I know of people working part time delivering for Pizza Hut and they told me, just the tips alone can come to $50-$60 an evening. You may want to check out those Chinese restaurants that deliver. They need drivers. And they pay in cash.

Amis won't get service with just any cellular carrier. She/he's off the coast of Florida. Coverage is sketchy at best out there.

There's a cell phone thread in the General Talk Section where all this was discussed last spring.

I believe that we have the cheapest cable where we live...Had Directv previously, they can't hook up due to the direction that our apartment faces, tried that...$110 is for two cells with 1500 minutes split. I have Alltel which gives me my circle & my calls are basically all free...my bf splits the bill so it's about $55 each and the taxes are included and amount to about $25. I have no home phone or computer so no $ there...I do want to stay with the Japanese brands, I hear ya!

I hope to get Xmas bonus $ from work, that would certainly help...

Remember when I had to drop $300 on tires in the summer? Now you know why I didn't want to put any more $ into my 4runner...I knew this was coming......d*mn that eight ball!

I used to do that...in the 4runner, it's not worth it on the gas I use up...we also live in FL...they do not tip well here...everyones on vacation and needs to pay the admission at Disney!

My Alltel actually works the best. I do not drop calls, my circle of friends makes all my calls free...my bf's contract is up next month and if he decides to get off my plan, I will pay even less...I'm on the $59, plus 9.99 for his line & we split the bill as it falls....it's the taxes.....he's looking into other services now...helio, metro pcs (a joke here....calls drop faster than you can dial), verizon was always pretty good, they're about same as alltel....cingular drops everything....although there seems like a lot of choices, not really.
