It'll make it difficult for you to get a checking account in the future, and some vendors make decline your checks for payment on goods. Especially the vendors that are using an electronic check verification system.Originally posted by missy2But what does that mean - they are reporting me to NCPS - does that mean I have some horrible record that won't go away or something?? Will this effect my current check account?
NCPS isn't going to be on your credit report, but the bank you owe money to, will report you, and they will be on your credit report. Not paying this debt, is sort've like a double jeopardy.

I "think" they are considered a credit bureau, just like ChexSystems. I had a bad check reported due to an error at a bank. I made a deposit but the bank recorded it wrong, then a check bounced due to that error. Since the bank was at fault, they covered the bad check fee directly with the store. A few years later I moved and had to open a new bank account since my old bank didn't exist where i moved, it was just a small local bank. I wasn't able to get it removed but the notation had to come off after 7 years, just like a regular credit report. I also found out, in regards to check verification agencies, that you state id # or drivers liscense is the identifyer, not your social. In my case, the original problem occurred in TN but when I moved back to NC I had no problems writing checks because my id # was different. Great reason not to have a SSN as your drivers liscense/id #.
