    iPhone Envy

So after years of waiting, the iPhone comes out tonight and now I can't afford it due to planning my bankruptcy filing sometime in August or September There are already people lined up around the block waiting for it at the Apple Store on Michigan Avenue. Lucky dogs.

I know getting one isn't in the cards for at least another six months or so or however long this odyssey takes, but what if I pitched in some money and had family and friends pitch in the rest for my birthday next month? I'm sure that wouldn't sit well in my pending Chapter 7. Luxury purchase, correct?

Oh well, I've been living on cash since St. Patrick's Day and am loving it so I've passed up a lot of other things I would have easily purchased in the past. Anything to get out from under this mountain of debt. This iPhone envy too, shall pass.

Good for you! Not living off credit cards is a wonderful feeling...If you stay focused, and discipline you won't find yourself burried up your eyeballs in credit card debt again. It won't be an easy task, because relapse is high, but just stay focused and you will achieve the success you want.

One key thing to seem is the ability to decide what is a need like food and what is a "want" like a new IPhone. Not only will the next IPhone be cheeper it will also be better. The current ones will work only on the ATT network which is somewhat limited.

Yeah, I waited to get an iPod until the 3G 40GB (October 2003) version and still had one of those before 95% of the planet. I don't mind that it's on AT&T since that's who I have already and am paying the $60/month for unlimited data and what not.

And September will mark a year since I made any big purchases when I realized I couldn't make my AMEX payment in full that month. They cut me off from purchasing after that so no more big purchases. I used my other CCs for groceries and gas and general living expenses and then stopped that in March when I stopped paying on my CCs. Such a freeing experience and all for the best as I've learned to control my spending and live within my means. Now I just need to get my old debt wiped out and start fresh.

I've seen the commercials. And I think it's kewl. BUT, all we use our cell phones for is a phone calls.

Our bill is high enough with 5 lines on the "Family Plan" just making phone calls. I even called Sprint and had our IP's locked so none of the phones can access the internet.

Extra $$'s here for unlimited text messaging and extra $$'s there for internet access really starts to add up.

I'm looking forward to the day when we start dropping phones off our acct!!

Me too. I think they are so cool...but all we use our phones for are calls. I used to pay around $100 a month for the whole family. I come from a home where dad didn't allow us kids to talk on the phone for more than a few minutes. As a result our entire family only uses about 10~15 minutes airtime every month

We decided to go with the Cingular/At&t "pay as you go" plan after filing and it works really well for us. We have to recharge our account with $25 every three months but the unused minutes roll over so I still have something like $70 worth which is about 280 minutes (a two-year supply for me) and I only pay about $8 a month.

The iPhone commercial does look really cool though!!
