    Pre-BK Counseling

Ok,this mostly just a rant, but I just completed the Hummingbird pre-bk counseling session and it was the biggest waste of my time yet.

They are making $49 basically for me to sit in front of my computer and type in all of my bills. This is the most ridiculous thing added to the new BK law.

I haven't called the "counselor" yet. I bet that will be fun

Please tell me the post-bk counseling is better

Yep - an emptier exercise of hoop-jumping is hard to imagine. All of us need to write our congressional representatives and thank them for this complete and utter waste of time and money, especially for people who don't have any money - we're filing bankruptcy for heavens sake! We used Hummingbird too - our telephone counselor came close to apologizing to us for wasting our time! Only took us about 10 minutes on the phone as I recall.

Since we're in Ch 13, we haven't done the post-bk counseling yet. I've heard it's more about effective budgeting and sharing money-saving tips the second time around and if you aren't a natural budgeter, it can actually be helpful. Otherwise, it's just another wasted few hours mandated by Congress....sigh....

Please come back when your post-filing bk course is done and let us know what you think.

I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

    07/18/06 - Confirmation Hearing - not confirmed, 3 objections

    09/27/07 - Confirmed at last!
06/10/11 - Trustee confirms all payments made

    10/02/11 - CASE CLOSED
Countdown: 60 months paid, 0 months to go

Both of them are a bunch of nonsense.
I could see it being useful for the extremely uneducated.

Very much agreed. Both courses cost $50.00, and were a complete waste of time. One educates you on what you have going out, (well I knew that already..sweating how I could rob Pete to pay Paul).

The second course tries to educate you on how to change your evil ways. I had a good laugh during one of the online presentations on how "credit cards were a good thing". No thanks! Especially not at 35% interest rates.

When you are broke this requirement is just ridiculous. $50 X 2 can buy some amount of groceries, or put gas in the car for a couple of days.

We took our first course through CCCS so we weren't charged for it, and it was not really a waste of time, just alot of of stuff we already knew. The second course, wasn't much better, that was a huge waste of time. We sat there with at least 18 other folks and the instructor basically kept asking, blah blah blah....is that a need or a want? Stuff like that. Ways to cut spending by buying cheaper things, which is my opinion was moot, because we were all in bk, I think our spending had been cut drastically as it were. You had to make out a goal budget, of how you want to be financially in 5 years. It's basic stuff.
