close bank account / have CC with them

Yesterday I went to my bank to close out my checking / savings account, but they said they would not close it because we have a Credit Card with them (with a balance). We are planning to file for chapter 7 here in about 3 months or so.

So what can I go about to close this these account; which I still have a remaining high balance CC with them?

I did open another checking account which I was told to do so due prevent garnishing my funds w/ saving/checking account that I own credit cards with/ Thanks for any help.

Since they won't let you close your checking and savings account, I suggest that you withdraw all the moneys EXCEPT for $5 in each account, and go open another accounts at a different bank. But make sure that you change any automatic deposits and any automatic withdawals to the new bank. If you're not in the Chexsystems network for bouncing checks. you dhould have no trouble opening an account at a different bank.

Agreed, stop all automatic withdrawls and get your balance down to almost closing the account out.

As long as you have funds in this account, they can tap it for any debt you owe with them if you file bankruptcy.

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.
