    TN Questions

Help, I can't figure out what to do. I am married filing single, straight forward chap 7. We moved to TN 10 months ago for a job offer that I received. We have NO money for anything other than essentials, he only just found a job, and starts tomorrow will only be making $300/wk for 6wk training. I don't have the $ for an atty, and there is only one in my town that does bk. Any suggestions for good atty, I live about 45 min outside of Knoxville. If I file myself, does that raise red flags or cause potential problems??? Thanks, love this site!

You're in the Eastern District of Tennessee BK Court. Court locations are in Chattanooga, Knoxville, Greeneville, and Winchester. Unless you're closer to Greeneville or Winchester, you'd probably file in Knoxville. Might be better to chat with attnys in Knoxville.

Maybe schedule several Consults on one day. Take a day, and make a trip in to Knoxville. Visit with 3-4 BK attnys. Take notes. Get different perspectives on your case. Learn about the Court there. What to expect from the Trustees. That sort of thing. Might help with your decision to file Pro Se or scrape up the funds to pay an attny.

Here's a link to your Court's Home page:

I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.

Even if you can't afford an attorney, or think you can't, schedule at least 3-4 free consultations with attorneys in your area. These might help you weigh your options.

Pro Se filers are generally given more scrutiny than those that file with attorneys. However it is possible to do.

Also sounds like you moved to TN in the last 10 months, you'll have to use the exemptions from your previous state.
