    Should I tell creditors NOW?

I am sick and tired of the phone ringing all day. I have my initial consultation with an attorney in 5 days. Should I answer the phone and tell creditors that I am consulting an attorney or should I continue to screen calls and wait until AFTER filing? I guess I'm not sure that if I tell them now whether or not it will push them into taking further action before I get a chance to file?

    Thanks!

Tell them. Unless there is something outstanding on your account (such as a large recent purchase, or it has gone really, really far and they are filing a lawsuit), they are not going to do any more to you simply because you are going to file. As soon as you file you pretty much take away any real options they have. In fact if you tell them you have somehting sheduled SOME of them may even cut back on how much they call.

I agree totally. When I told our creditors we had an attorney and what we were planning to do they did back off although they all asked what our case # was. At the time I didnt know it and they never called back to see what it was. We have only had one(medical) who has continued to send us bills despite the fact I called them and told them what was going to happen.

Thank you for your replies. This has been really frustrating, as I'm sure everyone here already knows. Now I am just hoping that the attorney will have good news for us on Saturday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
