Okay, last ? tonight - Tax Return copies

I need to order my income tax returns for the past two years from the IRS. My ex and I filed together and had GOOD income for the past two years. He made the majority of that. I have copies of my tax returns saved to my computer, but I don't have the W-2 breakdown. I need this for the 341, correct? Will the IRS have the W-2 info if we e-filed? I don't know where the tax info is, as I probably left it behind when I bailed. And I don't think it would fly if I asked the ex for the paperwork, 'cause he'd want to know why.

An even better question, what are they looking for when they look at the tax return?

You need to provide your tax returns from the last two years to your lawyer (or directly to your trustee if you are filing without a lawyer) when you file.

You can obtain free IRS transcripts by following these instructions on your touch-tone phone:

    Call 1-800-829-1040
Press 3 for all other automated services
    Enter your Social Security number
Press 1 to confirm your number
    Press 1
    Press 3
Enter the Number in your street address
    Press 2
Enter the year of the tax return
    Press 1 if correct
    Press 1 if correct
    Press 3 to end

To request a federal tax transcript by mail, use Form 4506T - http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506t.pdf. You can ask the IRS to mail the transcripts to your bankruptcy attorney using this form. There's no charge for mailed transcripts either. Allow 2 weeks for delivery.

Contact your state taxing authority to get proof of filing of state tax return.

    Hope this helps!
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

Ask your employers for copies of the old W2s.

If you're worried about asking for fear of telling them what's going on,.................. Tell them the truth.

In the move, you've lost some important documents that you're trying to replace. The W-2's are something you cannot find and would like to get copies if you can.

I used the IRS retutns that were saved on my computer from TurboTax and they took those just fine. People need copies of w-2's fairly often, just tell your work that you are buying a new mcmansion and need them for financing ;). Just kidding. I remember my husband needed his old paystubs from his last job which we lost, so he called the comptroller. The guy was such a creep- he said "You mean you don't have them?" My husband said, "if I did, do you think I would be calling you after you fired me?" the guy sent them overnight priority.
