Car not repossessed (yet) after bankruptcy

    Hello,

I filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy in July 2007, and it was approved in October 2007. I have a car with a lien and I had stated that I wish to surrender it. So far, I have not heard anything from the bank regarding repossession. The car's registration expires in February and I won't be able to renew it without the title since I
am in a new state. I don't want to drive around in a car with no valid registration. What if they don't come to pick it up? Should I just let it stand in the parking lot? What if I want to move out of
state? Should I just leave it behind?

There may be different laws in different states, but in NM (where I am now), you must have a title to register a car, period.

The lender is a small credit union in NC. They have no branches in NM, so dropping off is out of the question. I guess I could contact them, but I feel foolish nagging them to come repossess my car... But, maybe one certified letter will do, just so that I have proof I did something about it? But what if they ignore that too? After all, once the registration expires, it is illegal for me to drive the car, so I seem to be in bind no matter what.
