why did you or why are you considering bk?

me - no divorce, no medical problems.

just bad use of credit. i've had this problem my whole life.

    bad choices.

will that be a problem when i file???

    #2
no divorce, some medical, but really not a lot (less than 5K compared to my 90K worth of credit debt), so mostly just bad choices on my part as well. Your reasons for BK aren't a determining factor, as long as it's something in your past (not a 50K line of credit you took out last month to take a cruise around the world).

No. Is that not what our federal government does. Sounds to me like your ready for a political office.

Really: check out Financial Freedom by Dave Ramsey, he is on a radio station here in Dallas try www.klif.com between 1-3 pm central time. You will not be disappointed.

I listen to the Dave Ramsey show everyday and I love it. I started listening to him too late to avert a bankruptcy ($30,000 income/$85,000 credit card debt), but I have hope that I won't ever be in such a terrible situation again if I follow his plan afterwards. Plus I'm graduating from college in May and hope to improve the income situation and behave more responsibility with my finances.

My story is that I got trapped in a low paying job once I bought a house in a "small town" nearby (in order to save money). Costs kept going up, my financial situation changed. I paid more and more for a new (used) car, medical bills. Every time I turned someone was raising a tax or raising the cost of something. In the past 1-2 years the cost of food has doubled. I said enough when it got to the point where I had to choose whether to eat or to pay the credit card bill. I had been paying heating and other utilities with the credit card. (Oh, this all happened right after I graduated from college-- never move to a small town)

I'm about to file for Chapter 13, and it will be my 2nd BK. My first was a Chapter 7 in 1995 brought on by divorce - I couldn't pay child support, alimony, and my credit cards, so the credit cards had to go. I walked away from $35,000 of unsecured debt.

So now I find myself up to my a$$ in alligators, to the tune of about $90,000 - 60K of which is unsecured credit cards. How did that happen? A combination of a nonchalant attitude and my children, with the attitude garnering maybe 75% of the blame. I did let one of my sons charge up about $20,000 on one of my cards when he was away at college - there was just no way that he was going to survive without my help. I had a suspicion that it would contribute heavily to an eventual BK. My rationale is that I have sacrificed my future comfort to try and ensure his. Some would say that I should have considered his future a long, long time ago, so I'm not off the hook for the attitude thing...

It's not going to be a cakewalk like the Chapter 7 was years ago. Of course, that's why Congress changed the rules in 2005.

$35,000 in one day on broken jaw bones & 5 broken teeth is what did it with no insurance. but it did not stop there...it snowballed all over the place from missing work from the pain, not being able to think straight on pain meds, & having to be at many doctors over the course of about 7 months & my truck breaking down 4 times during that period. So I went from being totally debt free to being close to 60,000 in debt in about 8 months time...

Ridiculous what can happen & I never would have thought in my wildest dreams it could. I am always responsible with money & bills but without insurance- you can't be.

Letting congress know is not the solution it will be more of a problem. WE as a community know how to better spend our money than congress, and we are in BK. This government isnt far behind. I do not need them providing me with insurance. Give me more of the money I make and let me bear the expense of retirement and medical. I am in BK right now and paid well over $22,000 in taxwes this year to the different federal agencies and that is not including the 8% sales tax I have here in Texas. I have local land line through AT@T. That phone line cost me $9.00 a month and I pay $11.50 in taxes on it. I would be willing to say we actually get to keep less than 40% of the money we make when it is all said and done. WE owe it to take care of our elderly but that responsibility should be left to us the private citizens. There are a lot of private non-profit charities available. These are who we should be giving to not Congress .

That will not be a problem, if everything else is okay for filing.

I filed because of misuse of credit myself....no other circumstances such as medical bills, divorce, nothing like that.

My BK went off smoothly, beautifully, without a hitch.

                            Good luck!

I had to file due to seperation and pending divorce. I will say bankruptcy is alot cheaper than a divorce, but in the end they are both worth every penny!
