I'm new here and I had a question. I retired from the military in November 2007. I was not able to find gainful employment since that time. Consequently, I've become in arrears in my child support to the tune of 10K. Furthermore, child support services is garnishing my retirement check at the 50% rate. Basically, I live off of 700 dollars a month and 825 dollars in GI Bill benefits. BTW...I only get the GI bill benefits if I'm going to school. If i'm not going to school then I don't get it. My rent is 1015 dollars a month. Utilities are 300. That leaves 100-200 to eat, put gas in my car, cell phone, insurance and the likes to live off of a month.
PS...My situation is due to divorce that has been ongoing for 3 years now.
I am currently 30K in debt that I can't pay. My primary option is moving to Texas and living with my bro for a few months so I can get a clearer picture of my life. I currently live in California though.
So here's my question. Can I file in CA and then IMMEDIATELY move to TX? I just can't wait the required 180 days to establish residency in TX. By immediately I mean within 30 days of filing.
Or should I weather the storm for 6 months in TX and then file in TX?
