    Cancelling Online Access ???

Can you call the company (in my case, the only one I'm concerned about is my mortgage) and ask them to turn back on your online access?

I like to be able to pay online.

Any experience with this? Or do you have to wait until discharged?

You can always ask, all they can do is just say no.

There has been hit or miss luck with people getting online access back on their account after BK.

What I suggest (and honestly, I don't know why more people don't simply do this), is bank with a bank that has online bill pay. I pay ALL my regular monthly bills through my bank. (I use Wells Fargo). I can put ANYONE, and I mean ANYONE into their system...if WF has an established relationship with the creditor (or utility), the payment is probably transferred electronically, if they don't have a relationship, they cut a check and mail it. I don't waste time going to individual creditor websites to pay, and I can keep control of the payments by not authorizing auto-withdrawal.

In 6 years, I have only had ONE check not go through. (and I don't think that was the fault of WF, it was the idiot property management company losing the check).

I've started this process again with my bank; I think I liked going to the different web sites because I could print out statements, check balances, etc. and it seemed to be faster. At any rate, after everything is put into the 13 plan I'll only be paying utilities and mortgage, it'll be pretty easy (yeah, with all my "leftover" money!)

HHM - I used to do that, my bank offers it - I'm not sure why I quit! I forgot all about it until you mentioned it.

Keep in mind that the bank is using your money for a few days - the funds are deducted form your account immediately but the payment may not reach the creditor for severla days.

Yeah, but unless the person is an idiot, I think they can figure out when to schedule the payment.

Are you talking about bill payer services offered by most institutions? The money doesn't leave my account until the check actually clears.

Back in the day the money was taken out THEN the check was mailed.

I am not sure what you mean by "bill payer services". But at least at the bank I use, for the online bill pay, the money is debited from your account on the day the bank cuts the check (not when the check clears) (I think the check is technically a cashiers check). If the check is never cashed or otherwise negotiated, the bank puts the money back after 90 days.

Actually, I like my method better.
I pay all my bills in person with cash.

I only have 2 bills that I have to write checks for. My trash pickup, which is billed 4 times a year. And my long distance carrier, which I pay 2 months worth at a time. So I write a total of 10 checks a year.

                  11/20/10 - discharged and closed

I have never gotten online access back for my HELOC, which was reaffirmed in BK. The reason they gave me is that it is a closed account...though I still owe the money of course. They closed it due to my BK.

At first I was pretty upset because I used to like to go online just to see my progress in paying it off, get due dates, etc. However now it doesn't bother me much anymore. I just pay at the bank (my checking acct. is there also). No big deal.

Like HHM said, you can always ask. The worse they can say is "No." I think it might be that the mortgage company handles those with BKs differently. I know our mortgage company does.
