    What to tell creditors

    I am considering Ch 7 or 13.

At what point should I start telling my creditors, collection agencies, etc.?
It seems to me that I should not tell them until I've actually filed. My thinking is that, if collectors know that I may be filing soon, they will step up all actions to get their daggers in quickly through garnishments, liens, etc.

    Any suggestions/words of wisdom?

If you're seriously planning on filing BK, then stop paying your unsecured debts, if you already havent. It's really only worth telling creditors that you're filing BK if you've retained an attorney. Because they'll want the name and telephone of he/she, for thier records. Some creditors will continue collection actions, despite the fact that you've retained an attorney.

Just stop using any form of credit, and dont pay any of your credit related debts. And consult with a few local attorneys to determine which BK your situation is most appropriate for.

    Good Luck!

When confronted with legal issues contact an experienced attorney in your state who specializes in the area of law most directly called into question by your particular situation.
