    online bankruptcy.

HI, I cant answer the original Question but will try to help. BK is really only a matter of filing a bunch of paper. But, do you know the subtleties of the law and so on? I cant afford a lawyer either. I am affording a lawyer because I stopped paying all the bills that I mean to discharge, freeing money up to save for the lawyer. When the BK is finished, I will have that money for the normal living expenses that it was getting sucked from (not being able to pay heating in winter, groceries, mtg and so on). Lawyers give free consultations. This is when I was told to stop paying, and start saving. You should always visit 3-4 or so lawyers, and chose the one you feel comfortable dealing with. The lawyer (in my area) may be taking 1,500.00 but also, she will be helping me discharge about all my debt. It is a fair price to me, and worth every penny. One of these other places, or going pro se can end up costing you more if you don't know much about the laws of your state. My advise is to see a few lawyers first, then see how you can come up with the money. I am sure most people here will say that as well.

Strictly speaking, there is no such thing as Online bankruptcy. These sites aren't scams, per se, its just that they are not doing anything that you cannot do yourself. All they do is fill out the BK forms with the information you provide...but they cannot give you any legal advice and the forms they prepare are often laden with mistakes (reason being, they don't really seek clarification from you when you give insufficient or unclear information.).

There are a couple of online BK attorney services, but what they really are is a BK referral service. Those services prepare the forms from a central office, and then they have a contract attorney in your jurisdiction that handles the case directly.

Have you called your local legal aid office? They often can help with a straightforward Ch 7 filing and cost is adjusted to what you can afford.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

        06/01/06 - Filed Ch 13
        06/28/06 - 341 Meeting
        07/18/06 - Confirmation Hearing - not confirmed, 3 objections
10/05/06 - Hearing to resolve 2 trustee objections
01/24/07 - Judge dismisses mortgage company objection
        09/27/07 - Confirmed at last!
06/10/11 - Trustee confirms all payments made
        08/10/11 - DISCHARGED !

        10/02/11 - CASE CLOSED
Countdown: 60 months paid, 0 months to go
