first off, I have a 1996 van that is not paid for yet, and will still not be paid for when I am able to file next summer I do wish to keep this van and hoping that will work out alright..
Now, I have a 1994 jeep cherokee too that is paid off already, it has 284,000 miles(yep you read that right), the ac/heat doesnt work, headliner is falling, drivers window is the only one that rolls down etc.. it has a lot of problems but it runs and is reliable and I dont want to loose it, my daughter is to start driving it when she gets her license(hopefully by then the windows will be all working and the heat too) my question is do I need to do anything special in order to 'keep' it? sign it over to a friend before I file or something?
Another thing, with me not being able to file til next summer should I go ahead and talk to lawyers or will they not be interested being that I wont be filing for a while? Would I be able to go ahead and start paying payments maybe? I dont even know the going rate for filing and retaining a lawyer.. and if I were able to start payments would I go ahead and tell creditors to call the lawyer ad not call me, or would that not happen til I actually filed?
Also, as you know Im nervous about not paying the credit cards, they are coming due this week and I still hover with the thought that I could pay them and just owe late fees, but then again I want to smack myself and say "NOOOOO you are DONE remember, done over it, sick of it, starting OVER".. Its re-assuring knowing that even if it came to it and I get took to court that they cant do anything with my only income being the social security, but it still scares the beejeezums out of me to think of being summoned to court.. I know that in reality it would take a long time before actually coming to that point, and that it may not even come to that point at all, but still it makes me sooo nervous..but I know its something I need to do, Im so tired of it. the credit cards I owe the most to are Washington Mutual and Capital One and Merrick Bank..I also have a little Target visa and a Walmart store card, but they arent high balances at $400 and $600) are any of them known to be quick to take you to court?..
