Here is my somewhat odd experience:
Lived in Virginia up until September 15, 2005.
Move to North Carolina Sept. 15, 2005 and then left to move back to Virginia on May 26, 2006.
Lived in Virginia from May 26, 2006 and am moving back to North Carolina next week (May 15, 2008).
If I decided to file, which state's allowances would I use? The current Virginia residency will be 11 days short of 2 years. The previous NC residency was over 180 days. So can I file in NC, using NC's allowances? I actually want to use the NC allowances because they are much higher than my current area of VA and allow me to pass the Means test, so this is good news. But I want to make sure that I'm not cutting it too close to the 2 years in Virginia. Anyone know for sure? And do I need to live in NC for 6 months before filing or can i do it immediately?
