"charge off" versus "included in bankruptcy"

I have recently pulled our credit reports to inspect them for errors and found that all three are reporting one or two (especially best buy) accounts as a charge off as a bad debt instead of being "included in the bankruptcy". Will this make a difference one way or the other on the credit score? Can the creditor call it a charge off instead of the other legally?

This is a Texas bankruptcy filed in March 2002 and discharged in August 2002.

    Thanks !!

Immediately dispute this "charge off" with the companies that have it recorded at such.
If it was all "included in BK" then it should say "included in bankrupty" balance $.00.
Send certified letter to companies that reported this way to correct this problem. Give them 30 days, then notify them again that they are reporting incorrectly and its against the law.
Keep after them and make them correct this.

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.

Think about it. Does it really matter? Both - Included in Bankruptcy, and Charge Off are derrogatory comments. "included in bankruptcy" will stay on your credit report for 10 years from filing, while other derrogatory items are removed after 7 years

The creditor may report it as charged off, if it was charged off prior to the date of filing. In that case, they may report it as IIB/account charged off/0 balance.

If it was not charged off prior to date of filing, it should show as IIB/paid, closed, never late etc.

When I disputed six companies through Experian, they were listed as charge offs. However, the results came back showing four as IIB while the other two "charge off"--that they would be deleted in Oct. 2009. So, since I wasn't discharged until 2004, I'm assuming this would be better instead of staying on my CR until 2014.
