Need help w/ Credit Report issue

I'm having some problems with our credit reports. Everything I have disputed has been taken care of and corrected with the exception of ONE issue that is driving me crazy!

In Jan 2007 we had a state tax lien put on our credit report. (We have NEVER been contacted about it from anyone and had no knowledge about it) The balance was $11 but since the original amount was $626, that is the amount the judgment shows on our reports.

As soon as we pulled our credit reports and found out about it, we paid it off and got the satisfaction of judgment from the state. I have disputed this judgment several times on our credit reports, but it keeps coming back with the same answer.... this is a VALID debt!

What can I do to correct this? Our lawyer said this could help our scores jump quite a bit which would be great. Our reports are completely up to date and correct except for this one issue.

Is there any telephone number for each of the credit reporting agencies that I can call to talk to them?

    Please help!

    Thanks in advance!

I think it might be quite common for creditors/CA's to file the satisfaction of judgment with the local court, but not report the satisfied judgment to the credit reporting agencies. Dispute the "unsatisfied" judgment and send copies of court records showng the judgment was satisfied. Don't expect any great and immediate results. While it may be unfortunate, it is sometimes the case, that the burden of cleaning up your credit reports is on you. You'll probably need to be very persistent.

BEWARE! This has been a major thorn in our side since 1997. We had a lein on our house for a state tax bill of $375.00. We made payments for a few months, paid the bill in full, then waited. We assumed all was well when we received a paid in full statement from the Dept. of Taxation of Virginia. A few years later when we refinanced our home, it was showing up on our credit report. Yes, it was paid, but never released until a couple of years later, sat on someone's desk I assume for a very long time. I had my receipts and cancelled checks and tried to dispute it with the credit bureaus. They informed me they could not go back and change the date on court records. So now it is still on my credit report for almost 10 years, just like a bankruptcy.

Can't you get the Dept of Taxation to correct their reporting to the CA's??
I know I have had to contact creditors in the past to fix things on my CA, even after I disputed with the CA's and the results came back verified.
