Ex-MIL threatening to have my ex-wife file BK so I lose my house

I filed BK7 on July 31st and am waiting on my 341 meeting.

Today, my ex-MIL came to my house trying to get me to sign this check from the payoff on my ex-wife's car. I was instructed by my BK lawyer not to sign anything that has to do with that car because it was part of my BK estate. I told her "no" and she went ballistic and started yelling at me in my yard.

She kept telling me that if she had to get involved, she would make sure that I would lose my house and that she would be watching the place. Not sure what she is watching for, but whatever. I filed BK7 with the intention to keep the house. It is up-to-date and will be re-affirmed. In the divorce, my ex-wife signed a quit claim deed, I was assigned to pay the house payment which I have done religiously, and there was no language in the decree that stated that I would ever need to re-finance.

So if I keep paying timely payments, is there any way that my ex-wife could make me lose the house by her filing if I'm paying on it? I think she's just blowing smoke up my behind but wasn't sure.

I'm probably going to get a consultation with a lawyer over all of this too but that may take a couple days.

Remember the old song "mother-in-law, mother-in-law, the worst person I know, mother in law, mother-in-law.
In Blackjack a 17 is called "mother-in-law hand. Wamt to hit it, but can't.

Be thankful you're out of that family!
If your ex files bk, that 's on her not you.
She complied with the terms of a divorce decree by quit claiming the house and you are complying by staying current.
Next time ex MIL comes on your property call the police and get her cited for trespassing.
One thing I would do in a few years when your credit improves is, re-fi into your name alone. That way you cut all financial ties. Of course, be sure the deal makes economic sense. Don't take a high interest rate-high fee loan.

Yeah, that's why I haven't refinanced yet. I'm currently at 6% and can handle the payments.

If she quit claimed the house over to you, she doesn't own the house anymore so I'm not sure there is much she can do. And if she files BK and doesn't reaffirm, then she is not responsible for the loan anymore and then she has absolutly nothing to do with the house. And since she would no longer have any liability for the loan, then no need to refi into your name alone.

Next time your ex-mil comes over, tell her to have your ex file the bk, it will save you the trouble of refinancing the house later on. That should shut her up.
