So we hired a lawyer last friday after 2 consultations and answering of questions he pretty much spent a lot of time with us and I was pretty confident and we also paid him in full 2100 upfront don't know if that was a bad idea? gave him a lot of documentation but have not heard from him the past 4 days I think his secretary said he would be away this week anyway... but do you usually have to call in to make contact? also he said that hes hoping we could file by mid october but he said MAYBE not making any promises is that a bad sign?

No, this is not a bad sign. Don't panic. I'm sure your attorney has lots of work on his/her desk, so not hearing from him/her for prolong periods is not uncommon.
Your attorney's parallegal will more than likely handle the paperwork and such, so your attorney is not directly involved at this point. Give it some time and be patient, however if too much time goes by, then yes, contact him/her for an update.Bankruptcy History:
Chapter 7 filed - 10/12/2005 - Asset
Discharged - 02/16/2006
Case Closed - 11/08/2007
A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining and wants it back the minute it begins to rain ~ Mark Twain
All suggestions are based on personal experience and research and SHOULD NOT be construed as legal advice as I am NOT an attorney. Always consult with competent counsel in your area with regards to your particular situation.

Don't worry. My attorney is real good, experienced and STILL takes a long time to do things. Its a sign that he's busy.Originally posted by adaughter View PostSo we hired a lawyer last friday after 2 consultations and answering of questions he pretty much spent a lot of time with us and I was pretty confident and we also paid him in full 2100 upfront don't know if that was a bad idea? gave him a lot of documentation but have not heard from him the past 4 days I think his secretary said he would be away this week anyway... but do you usually have to call in to make contact? also he said that hes hoping we could file by mid october but he said MAYBE not making any promises is that a bad sign?
he was on vacation for a couple of weeks too but God, he entitled to it after all the work he has.
I paid him upfront as well. The good ones don't back off and are not embarrased to ask for what they are worth.Very fortunate in the grand scheme of things but have learned my lesson.

I wouldn't overly be worried.
Given the number of bankruptcies and cases each lawyer is handling these days it is not unusual for it to take up to a month to file the papers. Generally the paralegal takes the info you supply and fills out the paperwork for the lawyer. They look over it then have you look over it. Then everyone signs.
Anyway I wouldn't worry to much
